Today the Department of Social Work, University of Delhi, in collaboration with the Institute of Lifelong Learning,DU, celebrated "National Self Respect Day" under the Patronship of Vice Chancellor Hon'ble Prof. Yogesh Singh Sir. Cabinet Ministers Hon'ble Shri Ramdas Athawale(Cabinet Minister, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India) and Hon'ble Shri Ravinder Inderraj Singh(Cabinet Minister, Deparment of Social Welafare and Housing, Government of Delhi), Shri Vishnu Mittal(General Sec. Delhi BJP), and Prof. Meena Charanda(Principal, Kalindi College, DU) addressed the gathering. The program promoted dignity and social justice. I want to give my heartfelt thanks to all dignatories and attendees for their support in advancing this impactful initiative. Today's celebration of Self Respect Day, (Ātmasammān Diwas) was not a symbolic act alone but a step toward embedding constitutional values into the lived experience of higher education. It is now both timely and necessary to institutionalize this observance in a structured manner while also establishing mechanisms to measure how self-respect is nurtured at both the individual and institutional levels.
I was honoured to chair the Board of Studies(BOS) of Delhi School of Journalism, University of Delhi and also honored to invite Prof Brij Kishore Kuthiala Sir, Former Vice Chancellor, Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism & Communication, Bhopal, as Special Invitee for the meeting to get the direction and advise. Happy to share that my new edited book,”Field Work Practice in Social Work” with Dr Rituparna has published by Rawat Publication. All the chapters are emerged from field experiences and reflections while engaging students in their field work and how they practiced. This book will be the first kind of book which directly focus on the intervention and outcome in the field work practices by the students and research scholars. Fieldwork in Social Work continues to remind us that some of the most meaningful lessons are learned not only in classrooms, but alongside people and communities. Our sincere thanks to Rawat Publication for the publication of the interesting book which will be very effective and practical guide for students for field practice; what to practice, how to practice, which methods, tools, techniques need to be used and how…..Thanks to the dear student contributors also.
Today marked a historic milestone for the Department of Social Work, University of Delhi, as we inaugurated our newly renovated auditorium in the august presence of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh, Prof Balram Pani, Dean Colleges, University of Delhi, Dr. Vikas Gupta, Registrar, University of Delhi , Mr. Ashok Saini, Chief Engineer, University of Delhi, senior university officials, esteemed colleagues, and our dedicated team.
Named the “Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Auditorium”, this space stands as a tribute to the vision, intellect, and enduring legacy of one of the greatest sons of Maa Bharti — Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. May this auditorium continue to nurture dialogue, critical thought, social justice, and the spirit of inclusive education for generations to come
Today marks a small but important step and dream for our Department, DSSW. We inaugurated the “Persons with Disabilities (PwD) Resource Utilisation Cell” at the Delhi School of Social Work, University of Delhi, (on 2 June 2026). The Cell will give students with disabilities access to assistive tools and academic support(more will come), so that no student is held back from participating fully in the life of the Department. What I am especially pleased about is that this has been done without spending a single rupee from departmental funds. Resources and equipment have come through partnerships with organisations that believe in what we are trying to do. Our sincere thanks go to The Blind Relief Association, Delhi, whose support has been central to making this Cell functional. This would not have happened without Dr. Abhishek Thakur, whom I made Nodal Officer of this Cell, who along with me took this from an idea to a working reality. He did not wait for resources to come to him. He went and built the partnerships himself. The Department is genuinely proud of this. In a Department that teaches inclusion, it matters that we practice it too. This Cell is that commitment, in concrete form.
It was a great honour to attend and be part of discussion on “National Stakeholders' Consultation CSR 2.0” to develop NATIONAL TEMPLATE FOR SOCIAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT FRAMEWORK towards more structured, transparent and Impact-driven CSR Ecosystem and A Comprehensive Guide for Qualitative & Quantitative Impact Evaluation of CSR-Funded Projects. Thanks to DR. BHASKAR CHATTERJEE, the Pioneer of CSR of India who invited me, followed by Dr BML Munjal Social Impact CSR Award 2025-26 at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.

CThe UN Second World Summit for Social Development 2025, Doha concluded with wide international praise for its outcomes and results in terms of advancing social development globally and linking it to sustainable development.
At the closing session, the Summit reiterated its welcome of the Doha Political Declaration, which was adopted by the Conference. The Declaration emphasized the interconnectedness of eradicating poverty, providing decent work opportunities for all, and achieving social inclusion as essential elements for attaining sustainable development. It also provided significant impetus to accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
It also promises to leave no one behind, end social injustice, and guarantee dignity for everyone.
Building on the 1995 Copenhagen Declaration, the Doha Declaration addresses contemporary challenges, including climate change, digital transformation, and demographic shifts.
Nearly 150 submissions from governments and organisations showcased innovative solutions for social protection, employment, and poverty reduction, many of which were featured in a “Solutions Studio” promoting practical, scalable actions.
Wonderful opportunity for me to be part of this history at Doha, Qatar.

Today we DSSW (Department of Social Work), University of Delhi organised an workshop on
LEPROSY: UNDERSTANDING THE DISEASE, DISMANTLING THE STIGMA. Distinguished guest, Dr. Ashok Agarwal, the Chief Executive Officer of NLR India with his team took the seesion.
Leprosy, as we know, is one of the oldest diseases known to humankind. Although it is completely curable, the stigma and social discrimination associated with it often persist, affecting individuals and families long after medical treatment is complete. The challenge before us, therefore, is not only medical but also deeply social and psychological. As social work professionals and scholars, it is our responsibility to understand these broader dimensions and to contribute towards building communities that are inclusive, compassionate, and just.www.linkedin.com/posts/prof-sanjoy-roy-4ba39369_today-we-dssw-department-of-social-work-activity-7383443224172019712-ax2M?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop&rcm=ACoAAA545A4BRSlTgpVa7kM1Ky24aLjCBsxyudQ Organizations such as NLR India have been making remarkable contributions in this direction — through early detection, rehabilitation, and advocacy for the rights and dignity of persons affected by leprosy. Their work exemplifies how empathy and social commitment can bring real change.
